P2/3 Science Experiments

12th Jan 2024

As part of our new ‘Safe & Sound’ topic we are learning all about keeping ourselves healthy this week.

Today we carried out experiments using glitter to demonstrate how easily germs are spread and what we can do to help stop them spreading.

Even though we can’t see germs we know now they like to hang around in little nooks and crannies… as does glitter. We could quickly see how germs spread around our classroom on pencils, desks, floors, doors … everywhere!

Next, we could see how to Repel Germs with our Soap experiment.  We saw the power of soap and know the importance of washing our hands correctly with soap and water and not just water.

We had to rub between fingers, all the way to the wrist and make sure we did it long enough. So we sang happy birthday twice once to Emily and then Nathan (for at least 20seconds) as we washed our hands to make sure they were are nice and clean so that all of the glitter, germs and bacteria got washed off.

Finally, we enjoyed eating a birthday bun with our nice clean hands!
