Last term our P7 class decided to write to Marita Conlon McKenna, author of the famous Great Irish Famine Trilogy; Under the Hawthorn Tree, Wildflower Girl and Fields of Home. We also happened to be reading and enjoying immensely Wildflower Girl at the time! Marita replied to us, thanking us for taking the time and being brave writing to an author. She told us where she got her inspiration for the trilogy and she spoke about her interest in Irish history! She also gave each child a signed bookmark, very thoughtful indeed!
