Phew! What a day! The P7 girls are Cumann na mBunscol indoor football champions of Down. They were absolutely superb today in Kilkeel, undefeated, relentless, dogged and proficient, beating Carrick (Burren), Saul and the Meadow (Newry) in the first round matches. Next was a hard fought semi final encounter against near neighbours Kilcoo. The match ebbed and flowed with our girls eventually prevailing, scoring 2:3 to Kilcoo's 1:4. The final was against Carrick. Although the girls had defeated Carrick in the first round nothing was taken for granted. This was an epic battle, skilful and physical, the best match of the whole tournament. The Finn girls eventually prevailed 3:0 to 1:0. Our old principal Mr Hardy (who was bursting with pride) presented the shield to our captain marvellous; Christina! There was much singing and cheering all the way home on the bus with the girls doing a victory parade around the school when we reached base. Mr Murphy, the teachers and the whole school community are very proud of these young ladies. An Ulster final awaits the girls so onwards and upwards! Up the Finn!
